Many parents dread traveling with kids really far. And yes, for many the perspective of long-haul flights, jet lag, new food menus and in the case of France, an overdose of historical monuments and facts the kids won’t remember, is daunting.
But actually, France is an incredibly family-friendly country ! With kids-friendly materials and arrangements almost everywhere, your visit will be facilitated. But better than that, some Paris attractions and places are actually designed and PERFECT for kids.
So here is a post to recommend you our special selection of favorite things to do in Paris for families! We hope it will put a smile on your face, awaken the child in you and make you feel like packing your suitcase to come and have fun!
Much more than a regular garden or parc, the “Jardin d’Acclimatation” is actually a mini-theme park, about 10 minutes only from the Champs Elysees, designed especially for kids!
It not only offers great value for money – the kids can access over 45 games and activities for less than 30 euros – it is also located right next to the gorgeous Fondation Louis Vuitton! Perfect to bring the kids to admire contemporary, iconic and fun architecture and then have the utmost fun playing in the Jardin. Combine culture and fun at this place with never-ending surprises: the Jardin also hosts many animals the kids can approach and will soon launch educational workshops in 2019!
Whereas most parks in Paris have good children’s playgrounds, the Luxembourg Garden comes first to us! With unbeatable location and special attractions, it definitely should not be missed by families!
Located in the very central and historic 6th district of Paris, the capital of France, the park is lively and picturesque thanks to the many statues and romantic monuments, including the French Senate, the music pavilions, and photography exhibitions all around the park.
While it is a very relaxing area for grown-ups, the Luxembourg Garden will for sure entertain the kids too, in particular thanks to the not-to-be-missed horseback riding and puppet shows arranged especially for them !
Another good idea is to gather around the hexagonal fountain in the middle of the Park where your kids will mingle with little local Parisians to play with small sailing boats ! Don’t forget your camera to capture these beautiful family memories !
Science and Industry museum – Science City
Very worthwhile to take the kids there to develop their curiosity and knowledge while having loads of fun! Known as one of the best science museums in Europe, the “Science City” is located in La Villette Park in the northeast corner of Paris. It includes many permanent science exhibitions specially designed for kids, with a cinema and planetarium too.
The museum has a total of five floors, including two special areas designed for children aged 2-7 and 5-12. Full of games, quizzes and interactive contents such as water mills, mini construction sites, or reflective labyrinths, you will be amazed to see your kid having such an exhilarating time! And why not ending your day with renting a small boat at Canauxrama over the Canal de l’Ourcq after your visit?
Paris Natural History Museum
Probably one of the most underrated Paris museums, the Natural History Gallery of Paris will be a pleasure to visit for both children and adults! Located right next to the Seine River in the 5th district, the Museum is part of a larger complex including the stunning botanical garden, the Menagerie Zoo and several museums:the Museum of Biological Evolution, the Museum of Mineralogy, the Museum of Insects and the Museum of Paleontology.
The display of each pavilion is very clear and organized, about the origin of life and how to recognize different species. Do not miss the incredible dinosaurs and other fossils gallery, and take your kids on a beautiful journey of life to stimulate their environment and nature consciousness too.
Taking a cooking class
Paris hosts a very high number of entertaining cooking workshops for kids of all ages, in French, English and other languages. So why not taking your young ones to a pastries, chocolate, macarons, or croissant cooking activity ? It’s a fun and hands-on moment which will bring a refreshing break in-between the various visits and sightseeing.
Usually lasting about 2 hours for a cost around 50 to 60 Euros per person, most of the workshops are designed to welcome kids and their parents to learn together about French cuisine. Contact us for a selection of the best providers!
This post wouldn’t have been completed without talking about the children’s favorite Disneyland! Officially opened in 1992, Disneyland Paris is the world’s fourth Disneyland park and the largest cultural and entertainment resort in Europe.
Disneyland is obviously children’s heaven thanks to its numerous and very beautifully done attractions. Here are some of our favorites, such as Alice’s Curious Labyrinth, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Buzz Lightyear.
Similarly to other Disneyland resorts in the world, the Paris theme park includes amazing facilities for restaurants and hotels, a gorgeous Discovery Arcade (American Street Main Street, USA), which is perfect for taking your souvenir photos and regular performances at day and night in the park.
But what makes Disneyland Paris really unique, is its high number of attractions for parents too !! Don’t miss checking out Space Mountain or having a look at the Walt Disney Studios park.
Finally, at 11 o’clock in the evening, a must-see Disney Dreams fireworks show comes out! Fireworks, lights, fountains, animations and various special effects on the Sleeping Beauty Castle will let you end the day on a dreamy and magical note!
Voila! This was a long post, but we hope we’ve convinced you that Paris is not just a city of monuments, museums with paintings or posh restaurants. It actually is a very suitable and entertaining destination for kids with many activities prepared just for them !
